Meetup is a good example of an online tool that facilitates offline community building. Its mission is "to revitalize local community and help people around the world self-organize." If you want to meet people who share a particular interest or hobby, you can find local "meetups" on this website. You can even start your own groups by starting your own group, and posting it on the site, where others can sign up for your events. There’s something for everyone at meetup – so give it a try and let us know your experience.

Twitter gives new meaning to the term 'instant messaging'! With Twitter, you can keep up with your friends and coworkers, through the exchange of quick, frequent, and short messages posted from a phone or computer. The maximum limit is 140 characters. Stay connected in real time. Follow Life by Design NW on Twitter.

Manage and expand your professional network online with LinkedIn, a new social networking tool based on the six-degrees of separation rule (you know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone…..six times until you are connected).  LinkedIn enables you, as a registered user, to maintain a list of contact details of people you know and trust in business and community life.   This is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to get your name out to the right people, such as potential employers, collaborators, and business partners. LinkedIn is a great tool in the job search, so start you profile to highlight who you are, share your work experience, and have others 'recommend' you on line.

Facebook: It’s not just for kids! The fastest growing segment of Facebook users is people 50+, so join the revolution! Facebook is a way to keep in touch with new and old friends, and share photos and videos, new stories, and updates. Become a fan of us on Facebook!
